Buying Dubai Property from the United States

Americans can buy freehold property in Dubai’s designated ownership areas. A remote transaction may be possible, but the property, broker, developer, contract, receiving account and registration route must be independently verified before money is transferred.

The remote-buying sequence

Define the budget and purpose, verify the freehold location, compare ready and off-plan options, confirm the licensed parties, review the reservation and sale agreement, verify payment instructions, complete identity and signing requirements, and confirm registration through Dubai Land Department channels.

Documents and authority

Expect passport and identity checks. If another person will sign or act for you, the power of attorney must be drafted for the intended transaction and accepted by the relevant parties and authorities. Do not assume a generic U.S. document will work without confirmation.

Money-transfer controls

Request payment instructions through a separately verified channel. Off-plan funds should follow the project’s verified escrow arrangement. Confirm currency conversion, bank compliance timing and the all-in AED amount before setting a reservation deadline.

U.S. responsibilities continue

Owning property abroad does not remove U.S. reporting obligations. Rental income, foreign accounts, entities and asset-reporting questions should be reviewed with a qualified U.S. cross-border tax professional.

Questions American buyers ask

Can a U.S. citizen own Dubai property?

Yes, foreigners may acquire freehold ownership in designated areas, subject to the property and transaction meeting current requirements.

Can the purchase be completed without traveling to Dubai?

Some transactions support remote reservation and signing workflows. Confirm identity, notarization, power-of-attorney and registration requirements for the exact deal.

Should I send money to an agent?

Do not send funds based only on a message or brochure. Independently verify the recipient, contract and applicable project escrow instructions.
